With the upcoming release of the latest Indiana Jones installment, I've taken this opportunity, as many have, to revisit that franchise. However, one cannot just stop at one Spielberg movie.
I've really been struck on these latest rewatches by the humanity in his films. There's such a clear "we are all in this together" motif found throughout his work that particularly shines when you watch them all back-to-back. Sure, some don't work as well as others, which I've noted below, but when they do work, they sing.
Jaws (1975)
I was a dumb kid
and found this boring...did I
mention I was dumb?
Duel (1971)
How does he do it?
What a task for a first film
and he pulls it off!
The Post (2017)
Was hoping this was
a hidden gem. It should be!
But it’s not! A shame!
Schindler’s List (1993)
Neeson and Fiennes are
on another level here.
Really, they all are.
The Terminal (2004)
This movie is just
total nonsense, but Tom and
Steven make it work
Jurassic Park (1993)
My favorite line:
”Big Tim, the human piece of
toast.” One of our best.
West Side Story (2021)
At the end of the
day, it’s still West Side Story,
unfortunately
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
I’m pretty sure that
I like Raiders because I
like Temple of Doom
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
Holy cow, this rocks.
Jokes land, action sings, it starts
and doesn’t let go.
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
If you want to hear
my thoughts on this movie, you
can hear them right here
