What makes a bad movie musical cast?
Last week, we took a look at Tom Hooper's 2012 film Les Misérables and how excellent casting for a movie musical (typically a combination of stage-experienced stars, exciting newcomers, and theatre regulars) can make the whole thing work, even when some other directorial decisions are head-scratching.
This week, we turn to Hooper's follow-up, 2019's Cats, to see how missed-target and stunt-casting can bring the whole thing down.
