Hey FP readers,
Patrick here. Next month will be three years since I first published a piece under the Feature Presentation name. We've published close to 400 posts since then, from episodes of our podcasts to monthly newsletters to reoccurring columns.
I'm proud of all of that. It has taken a lot of planning, research, writing, recording, and, of course, movie watching, to get here. And aside from a mini three-day hiatus this week, we haven't missed a day this year. As a small operation, that is no easy feat.
I dedicate a lot of my waking hours to thinking about this site, editing the work that appears on it, and I watch five movies for every one movie that I write about. I would like to take things to the next level and offer you the option of paying for the criticism and opinions you read/listen to on this site.
I want to start with: Nothing is going behind a paywall. Every single thing we do right now, from The Drew Barrymore-a-thon to Y2Kidz to The A-Listers to TLDRs, will remain (and will always be) free. Nothing is changing. If you want to keep enjoying this stuff under a free subscription, I'm glad that you're here. Really, that's just super cool to me.
However, if you would like to contribute and have the means to do so, it would support the site in ways that we haven't seen in three years. I've been against the idea of a paywall because I just want people to hang out here. That's why nothing you already read will become exclusive for paid subscribers online. Instead, there will be additional paid subscribers content coming...soon.
So what does that mean? For the next few months, your contribution would be entirely a donation. Those posts will probably begin to appear around the new year. The idea is to do a new series of longer essays for paid subscriptions. In the meantime, you'll still get the normal stuff, but I'll be especially grateful.
If you don't want to pay, now or ever, don't. Seriously, it doesn't bother me. If you want to, but just can't right now, no rush. We will keep doing what we're doing.
If you would like to upgrade now, formerly free subscribers can do so for 20% off for one year. That goes for both monthly and annual subscriptions, (which is already 17% cheaper than subscribing monthly.)
There's always something new around the corner at Feature Presentation. New podcasts, new contributors, new ideas. Many of those things are coming as soon as this week. In the meantime, we will keep posting every day - whether you want to give us $5 a month or not.
This site is our way of talking about the stuff we love. If you love that stuff too (and maybe want to see what we have to say about it!), that's good enough for me.
Thank you for considering. That alone is a kind gesture.
Patrick
