Forget 127 Hours or The 400 Blows, this is our (500) Days of Summer anniversary - our 500th post!
In August of 2020, I posted a plea to visit your local drive-in during the pandemic. Since then, we’ve posted 499 film, television, podcast, book, and music reviews - totaling thousands of suggestions. We’ve launched four podcasts, met friends around the world, visited and covered prestigious film festivals, and watched plenty of bad movies so you don’t have to.
That is because of the contributors we’ve had over the years. Some have come and gone, some only appeared once, while others remain. They have all played a part in getting to 500. It’s also largely thanks to Taylor, who listens to me talk about the site even more than she already contributes to it.
And of course, it’s thanks to you. Primarily, that’s our email subscribers who check out what we’re doing every day. The people who have rated and reviewed us on their favorite podcasting platforms and the people who leave nice comments and send thoughtful emails.
Thank you. I love working on this website and I appreciate you making that worthwhile.
As we look ahead at our THX 1138 and 1408 and 2001: A Space Odyssey anniversaries, I’d like to let you know about how you can support us in other ways going forward.
Start by considering a paid subscription.
If you would like to upgrade your free subscription to a paid one, you can click that pink button and get 20% off for your first year. That’s just $4 a month (the price of a coffee!) or $40 for the whole year (that’s ten cups of a coffee!) and you can make this site function directly. Folks who contribute their time and energy will no longer have to volunteer it.
We don’t run ads, support is reader-funded. Thank you for being that support.
Starting this Monday, January 15th, Monday pieces will be for paid subscribers only. None of the current things we do, from Y2Kidz to The A-Listers to TLDRs to Taylor Watches Rom-Coms, will go behind that paywall. Instead, paid subscribers will enjoy new series written just for them.
Then, there’s commissioning a review.
I’m trying something different here. I’ve created an Amazon wishlist of movies and tv shows and books and such that I would be willing to review for the site. If you order something off that list and have it shipped to the registry address, you will have a review on this site within 30 days. That’s a promise.
Try it out, won’t you?
There’s no additional cost - the item arrives, it gets reviewed.
There are many different price options available and you can even add anything you want to the order, but no promises that’ll get reviewed on time if it’s a nine season tv series.
If you want to read reviews on this site, there’s no better way to guarantee a review you will want to read. The list will change over time, donations will appear as reviews and I’ll add new items and ideas as they come to me.
Finally, just keep reading and listening.
We are gonna keep doing what we’re doing. You can still subscribe for free posts, directly sent to your inbox every Tuesday - Friday. We’re going to continue adding new contributors, reviewing movies new and old, and reaching for exciting opportunities.
We want you to join us, in whatever way that may be.
